A DAY IN ASAKUSA

An Overview

This blog will introduce an one-day plan that includes:

  • A stationery exhibition held ever year in Tokyo
  • Things to do in Sensoji Temple
  • A store worth exploring in the Nakamise Shopping Street

A Festival of Paper and Stationery: KAMIHAKU 紙博

If you are a Japanese stationery fan, I think you should know Kamihaku (紙博) or Paper Expo, a festival for people who love paper and illustrations. Since it began in 2017, it has been held in various cities, including Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Taipei.

Be prepared to fight with other stationery lovers. There was a large crowd like a battleground. If you bought all the stationeries you wanted and left the exhibition safely. Congrats! You survived and be ready for the next year :)

Visiting Sensoji Temple: 浅草寺

After taking a rest at a cafe, we visited the Sensoji Temple (浅草寺), which is the oldest temple in Tokyo. I took an omikuji, fortunes written on strips of paper, as usual, and I got THIS:
(Many people got misfortune here, but that is okay! You can just leave it here like I did. )

Daikokuten (left) & Shokannon Goshuin (right)

Another thing you can do at Japanese temples or shrines is to get a Goshuin stamp. There are two main types of Goshuin stamps that you can get at Sensoji Temple. On the left, is a Daikokuten Goshuin, and on the right side is the stamp of Shokannon, which is the most representative red seal of Sensoji Temple.

Exploring Nakamise Shopping Street: 仲見世通り

Nakamise Shopping Street

Of course, many visitors would like to shop on the Nakamise Shopping Street, but they will only stay on the main road. Actually, there are many stores worth exploring! One of the places I would like to introduce here is "inimu (イニム)", a store where you can make, try, and smell fragrances.

The reason why I want to recommend this place is because you can make your own original blend aroma mist by choosing two or three of your favorites from a total of 12 types and blending them. It's very easy to make. All you have to do is pour a certain amount of the fragrance you've chosen into the bottle.

  2. This is a really informative blog. I have been to Asaksa a few times but didn't know about the Festival of Stationary or the other interesting things you introduce here. I like the idea of creating an original fragrance.
